An intimate gathering that sticks with me - for so many good reasons. Sofia and Joey's wedding day at Stan Hywet was quiet, heartfelt, and exactly how they wanted it. Just them two and the people closest to them.
The morning started with Sofia and her mom in a small room with sweetest vintage decor. No big planning, no champagne, no music - just them being themselves. Sofia was so relaxed and giggly, she shared that her dress was a true vintage piece, and the whole vibe was quiet and emotional. I kept thinking, this is why I love documentary-style photography. I get to quietly watch all these little moments unfold, while smiling like a fool behind my camera.
The first look in the gardens felt straight out of a dream. Joey waited for his bride surrounded by soft light and greenery. First looks are so precious for me to observe and capture. I love the moment they both see each other and you can just see them melt into each other.
The gardens were so beautiful and dreamy, we went straight into some bride and groom portraits. We wandered through the grounds from the gardens, to the overlook, the courtyard, and near their intimate ceremony site.
Short, sweet, and full of emotion. The ceremony itself was breathtaking and so peaceful with only their immediate family present. Fun fact, Sofi's brother officiated! I adore when family is included in such a personal way, it makes the whole thing feel so genuine. Some chuckles, a few tears, and mostly the kind of quiet joy that fills the space without anyone having to say a word.
Instead of a traditional reception, we wrapped things up at a nearby Airbnb. Backyard hugs, polaroids, laughs under the fall sky - it was simple, intimate, and full of love. I loved seeing everyone just relax, hang out, and soak in the day. I'm all for non-traditional timelines like this. They didn't follow the usual rules, and it made the whole day feel even more them.
The whole day felt like Sofia and Joey - relaxed, emotional, and all about love.
